"Storage Unit Rental": What Size is Right for You? | A&G Storage

The time for a storage unit rental The first thing an agent will ask is, "What are you putting in the unit?". The reason this is asked is because most people don't know what size they need.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you pick up the phone:

What can not go into storage?

At A&G Storage, we have strict policies regarding the types of items that can be stored on our premises. We do not allow the storage of explosive or flammable items, such as fireworks, ammunition, and propane tanks. Firearms, live animals, and deceased animals (taxidermied is an exception) are also prohibited. Illegal items such as drugs or stolen property are strictly prohibited. Food, drinks, and vehicles cannot be stored on our premises.

How much stuff are you storing?

Our smallest unit is a 5X10, which is the size of a large closet. These are often full of holiday decorations, a mattress (though probably not your king-sized bed), and a couch.

If you are storing a one-bedroom, we recommend a 10X10 unit. These units are approximately the size of a one-car garage.

Our larger units are a 10X15 and a 10X20. These can hold multiple bedrooms in a home. If you are moving and putting everything in storage, you will want a larger unit (or two).

How do I pack it?

Put your largest items in the unit first. Make sure the heaviest boxes are at the bottom and fragile items are handled with care. Plastic tubs tend to be more durable and weather-resistant than cardboard. Don't forget to label those boxes!

In conclusion, renting a storage unit can be a practical solution for various needs, whether downsizing, moving, or needing extra space. Before making that call, it's essential to assess what you plan to store and consider the size of the unit accordingly. Understanding what items are prohibited from storage, estimating the volume of your belongings, and adopting proper packing techniques are crucial steps in ensuring a smooth and efficient storage experience.
