Governor Kemp has signed in new legislation, which became effective July 1, 2025. What does this mean for you?

The Georgia Self Storage Association went to the state capital with the goal of updating our current lien laws. This new law removes the requirement for self storage operators to place an ad in the paper during auction proceedings.

This legislation has passed in 32 other states. Tennessee notably passed this a few years ago. Florida did introduce this legislation this past session, however it did not pass.

What this means for the consumer is that there will no longer be an ad requirement in the legal section of the newspaper. If there is an auction scheduled, consumers will still have adequate notice. Auction websites will suffice as advertisement through their own advertisements and SEO .
